WA needs ‘special treatment’ on carbon price

Outspoken Verve Energy chief Shirley Int’ Veld says WA needs special consideration under any carbon price scheme due to the unique challenges faced by the state’s power system.
Int’Veld said WA had three unique factors which set it apart from other states, and made it more reliant than others on coal-fired power.
These were that WA was not connected to the national grid that gas is used for 65 percent of the state’s power but comes from ageing plants, and the uncertainty over future gas supplies.
Int’Veld was speaking after a day-long outage at WA’s North-West Shelf, the state’s main gas plant.
