NSW households waste A$500 million a year

Half see no link between turning off power and their bills

2.8 million NSW households waste more than A$500 million a year on standby power, according to a survey from Origin Energy.
The survey found that more than 50 percent of households believed that basic actions, such as turning off appliances at the wall, made no difference to their bills or the environment.
But they could save on average A$209 per home and a combined 807 kilowatt hours of electricity a year if they did so.
The survey found that 87 percent of respondents blamed rising energy prices as the main cause of their higher bills, with less than 15 percent attributing it to the increased use of technology in the home.
