Oz/China “should collaborate” on Solar

Australia has a great potential to collaborate with the Chinese solar industry, says John Grimes, the chief executive of
theAustralian Solar Energy Society.
Grimes was speaking at the Sixth China Solar Utilisation Convention in Shandong, where he hailed the development of solar in that country.
“With support from municipal, provincial and central governments China is now the 7th largest market for PV solar in the world, and will only assume even greater importance in coming years as China works towards ambitious targets,” Grimes said.
He went on to press the case for the partnership between Australian solar expertise and Chinese manufacturing.
“As one of the world’s leaders in solar energy innovation and expertise, Australia has a key role to play in China’s solar revolution,” Grimes said.
“We are one of the major markets for solar energy in the Asia-Pacific region which will account for around one-quarter of global solar PV demand by 2015.”
Grimes said Australia was the ninth largest PV market in the world, and that solar production in the Asia Pacific grew by 165 percent in 2011.
