Solar perfect for Nth Qld: uni report

Far-north Queensland has been identified as one of the best global locations for solar energy in a report by Central Queensland University.
The report says sunlight in the region is among the highest in the world, comparable to the deserts of Africa and the south-west USA.
The report authors have called for the fast tracking of solar projects in the region.
Local press quotes German-owned power firm Q-Cells as calling for a large scale solar field near Townsville.
Q-Cells has donated two photovoltaic systems to James Cook University’s Douglas campus, with the energy sold back to the Ergon grid for credits.
Q-Cells Australia chief Dr Oliver Hartley criticised the approvals process for solar projects, saying the “one off” approval created uncertainty.
