Solar powered wine now on sale

The Scion Vineyard and Winery near Rutherglen in Victoria has installed a hybrid renewable system which is providing 90 percent of its energy needs and cutting costs by 30 percent.

Scion has installed a hybrid energy system comprising a solar array, a battery storage tank and a diesel generator for back up, which can be powered by biofuel.

Winery owner Rowly Milhinch told local media the move had been forced by rising infrastructure costs, which threatened to make the business uncompetitive.

Scion has also installed a Tesla vehicle charging station which is also powered by the hybrid system.
