The RES Australia developed Ararat Wind Farm has come online and is now feeding electricity into the national grid and to the Australian Capital Territory.
The project was made viable when it won an energy auction with the ACT Government, which has agreed to purchase 40 per cent of the wind farm’s output.
The 75 turbine Ararat Wind Farm represents a $450 million investment, and created 250 contracting jobs in the construction phase, contributing more than $40 million into the Ararat economy over an 18 month period.
The final turbine was installed in mid-February and they are being progressively tested and connected, with a completion date of May 4.
The ACT plans to source 90 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2020, and has undertaken a series of wind and solar auctions.
